I want to wish everyone a Happy 20th of Rain’s Hand. This special ‘holiday’ edition of the blog marks a first for me; my first attempt at entertaining you guys with a YouTube video.  In the last episode, I mentioned I would be showcasing some new items. I took some of that focus to work on a surprise project and put together the video.

The idea started like many other of my bright ideas; Skyrim. I love the clothing; and if I had it my way, I would make it all day and night. I love a certain kind of Mage Robe, but I thought the design needed some tweaking. So, I started with a piece of remnant linen and kept going until I wound up with this:

And that is as much as I am willing to post pictures of. If you want to see the drastic changes I made, you’ll have to watch the video  :)  So, without further adieu, I present to you my very first YouTube video:

The robes can be made in any color and size and take a few weeks to ship.  I wanted to make the robes dark and with a sense of Earth Magic. I thought the green would look better darker and with a gradient dye.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Here are a few pictures in case you don’t have time to watch. I am leaving out the best part of the design though. If you want to see it, you’ll have to wait till next blog episode. So, watching the video will satisfy your curiosity much faster. Hashtag instantgratification. I would love to know what you think.

Poisoned Necromancer Robe

I would like to generate enough interest that I can get a set of four of five different colors and take some crazy pictures. I can make these with any design in the front. Oh, you don’t know what that means… Guess you will have to watch the video  :)  I know I said that I would be showing off some of my other designs, but I have more pictures I need to crop and watermark. I wanted to focus on the video for you crazy internet folks. My next video will be just as Skyrim filled; I promise.

The next episode might take a few weeks. I have some serious garden prep work to do, a dump truck of compost to till into the soil and lots of studio work. If I get lucky, I might manage to squeeze in a BBQ in my spare time. Spare time… yeah, right!

I can’t leave today without speaking for a moment about humans in general. In the face of the events in Boston, I have seen some amazing acts of selflessness. I know Monday was a dark day in many ways; but, in many others, it showed that there are still billion of humans out there worth fighting for. If you or someone you love has been affected by Monday’s violence; I want you to know that millions, if not billions of hardworking and compassionate humans that stand with you on every corner of the globe. This time of grief will pass; you will heal and become stronger. I think I have said enough today. Be sure to look for Episode 8 coming soon!

I would like to thank you all for taking the time to stop by and read this. If you would like to see the full album from this episode, click here If this is your first visit to my blog, I invite you to check out this entry to learn a little more about me. The next episode will have more new designs for 2013, an update on the status of the pillow monster charity event and hopefully a huge update or two. I have something up my sleeve, but I don’t want to tip my hand just yet; lest I sound like a jackass. I do want this blog to be something you enjoy reading and feel like is yours as well. If you enjoy the content I provide, I welcome you to share this entry with other awesome people. It means a lot to know my work is being shared with amazing people all over the world. I wish you all a beautiful day and I will see you again soon.

Peace & Love,

Bunneah Munk

I know, it’s been a few weeks since posting an update; and, for that I apologize. Hopefully this episode will make up for the lack of activity on the blog as of late. Last Episode, I talked a little about making my first Greybeard Cloak. Today is just the beginning of many new product updates. Let’s begin, shall we?

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing the launch of Addart’s Casual Gamer line of everyday garments to keep you looking fresh for the warming weather. I will start with the release of Skyrim Inspired Dragon Priest bandanas.

Several new designs will be soon to follow. The designs will be available in tons of mens and womens garment styles. I am working with some specialized pigments and inks to dramatically expand the line into a fuller collection. You can add me on Facebook to follow my work. I just don’t have the time to update this as often as I would like.

Casual Gamer will focus primarily on custom dyed garments and accessories processed in small batches. The idea is for every single piece to look unique. Several original designs are being developed and I am testing some special pigments for some crazy effects. Now, let’s just hope I’m not shoving my foot in my mouth. I have a surprise I am holding out for next episode, but let’s just say it involves a gradient dyed piece from Skyrim with a custom modded design. I think you will enjoy it.

If you would like to pick up your very own Dragon Priest Bandana, you can get the standard version Here and the customized version Here. Free US shipping and $5.00 shipping everywhere else!

Now I can’t just leave you with a post about buying my items. I know you are hungry for fresh art and I hope I can satisfy your appetite. Here are some of the painting projects I have been working on since the end of last year.

The Last Day

I wanted to do something awesome for the possible destruction of humankind on Dec 21. What a disappointment that was. If anyone needs to buy cases of Spam, I am offering a great price on discount doomsday food. :) I can’t think of any better place to be during an apocalypse than in the arms of someone willing to die for you and maybe a trusty four-legged friend.

This project began as an experiment in painting on polyfilm. I actually had no clue how dramatic it would look until a light bulb went off in my brain and it hit me. This stuff lets light through. So, what started as a basic painting for my Facebook banner became a tale of two very different paintings. I look forward to painting on polyfilm again in my imaginary time that I don’t have. The only problem is that is flakes off with very little contact. But, I like the idea of temporary art. There is something special about a beautiful thing fading into the past. Now for a change of pace and medium comes contestant two.

Untitled Victorian/Gothic Painting

Sometimes, you just want to paint. Sometimes, naming your painting is the last priority. I would love to say there is a great explanation for this work; but, the truth is, I just wanted to paint a gothic scene with a Victorian woman. This is the most unfinished of the works I am showing today. I would love to know what you think.

Two Worlds Apart

So close, yet so far apart are two people having nothing, but everything in common. I wanted this piece to be a symbol of how close we all truly are. When you look at this piece, I would like to think that you see two immortals that have nothing in common. They would have never spoken to each other, had the same interests or even survived on the other’s planet. Yet, they are bonded the undying fact that we are all in this together.

Whether you are in Germany, France, Russia, America, China or anywhere else, this painting is for you. No matter is you are a Catholic, Christian, Muslim, Atheist or anything in between this painting is for you. When you look at this piece, it is my intention for you feel connected to your brothers and sisters across the world who are looking at the same painting as you. Even if that person is someone you would not associate with. This piece is about unity. We are all connected whether we want to be or not.

So today, whether it is just another Sunday to you or this is a special day for you to celebrate a religious holiday; remember to be kind and love even those people you do not agree with. Nothing positive ever comes from hatred or negativity. Hating a person just because of who they are or what they believe is a terrible way to use your mind. Your mind if for inspiring and creating and exploring the world and I would like to encourage you to do just that.

Welcome to what many of you will consider the first interesting post since this blog was launched. I want to start by thanking my readers and subscribers for being so patient. The uber awesome content will start to roll out slowly; I promise. It’s all about how quickly I can rotate, crop and watermark my pictures on top of my studio work.

If you read the Last Episode then you already know this one is all about bringing Skyrim to life. Several months ago, I gathered my hordes of remnant fabric and wondered what could come of them. After much debate, I decided I wanted to really push myself as a designer. I mean how on earth could I top the world’s most flawless hat? And then a light bulb went off. Well, I suppose it’s time to switch to those energy saving bulbs anyhow.

 The Concept

I put out a concept sketch and committed to making a modified Greybeard cloak. The in game version is sleeveless and hoodless, the sleeves and hood are actually part of the robe. I knew I didn’t have enough fabric for a cloak and robe set so I incorporated fringed sleeves and a hood into the cloak design.

This was right before the light bulb was fixed. I really had no clue the response would be so positive; so, guess who didn’t take an exhaustive library of pictures? If you guessed Bunneah Munkeah, you win eleventy billion dollars. Don’t worry; this is the only one without tons of pictures. Now that I have started this blog, I promise to try to take buckets of pictures for you.

Pics or It Didn’t Happen

The keyhole trim was a left over grey fleece; the liner was actually two different fabrics. A random fabric I picked up on sale aeons ago and an upcycled black stretch cotton fabric. The scales are synthetic suede. I had some on hand, but I did have to buy a bit more and some feathered trim.Any time I bring out pictures of the Greybeard work, the questions start flying. So here comes the geekery info…

The keyhole was made higher than the in game version to give it a more youthful aesthetic. It took over two months to make; I’m down to about three weeks for a full set now. The scales are cut one at a time with a rotary cutter I cut two layers at a time, the front and back. I made tons of mistakes the first time. I probably spent a week seam ripping and re stitching. Even better, my brain was switched off when I started and I didn’t make a pattern.

To be quite honest, I never imagined anyone would want to pay for one. I originally made it for me. How selfish, right? As the design came to life, I was told pretty frequently that I could sell it. So, I wore it maybe twice, terrified I would ruin it; washed it and stuck it in my closet. I think 20 minutes was the longest I ever had it on at one time.

Since I was encouraged to list it on My Shoppe and I hate money, I sold it for a pretty low price. Even better than making a sale, I gained something much more valuable than money. The moment I saw the sales notification, I gained the confidence to pursue a full time shop. I have been sewing for as long as I can remember; friends and family ask for garments and I happily oblige, I just always figured they were being nice.

So, if the owner of the cloak is out there reading this; I hope you still have as much fun wearing it as I had making it. I would like to thank you for opening an amazing door for me to further my work as an artist. It truly has been a tremendous opportunity and learning experience. As an American businesswoman and artist, this means the world to me. You have helped me realize I can earn a living doing something I absolutely LOVE and can be proud of it.

Okay you crazy people, I think that is about all for today’s episode. Remember to go out and do something good for someone less fortunate, make someone smile or just spend some time loving on your family. Life is too short to miss those moments.

I would like to thank you all for taking the time to stop by and read this. If you would like to see the full album from this episode, Click Here. Until Next Time Traveler,

Bunneah Munk

After wrapping up the LAST EPISODE of the blog, the monsters chased me for three hours and GLaDOS told me I need to be a more humble person. So, I went to the store and picked up a self help book on training plush monsters and humility. There really is a self help book for everyone.

Chapter One: Learning From Your Mistakes

Today, I wanted to talk about an ancient sewing project that turned out amazing and one of my paintings that didn’t – okay its opposite’s day.

While I love working in the studio and have created some really fun things; I have always tried to remain humble. I know the minute the awesome goes to my head, I lose focus of the real reason I do what I do; helping the world suck a little less one plush monster at a time. As you may have guessed already, this episode is going to be about community involvement, positive encouragement and awesome :)

Plants VS Dexter

I haven’t always made the prettiest things. Some of my projects have been absolute failures. Like peanut butter and jelly quesadillas; let’s not talk about those. I was pretty ashamed of myself on that day.  Other times, I win hard. I like to think Plants VS Dexter was one of those times.

Believe it or not, PVD was my first oil on canvas painting. I had practice with oil paints, but never on a bona fide canvas. Painted on a massive 48 in X 48 in (122 cm X 122 cm) canvas, it took over a month to paint. Albeit, I wasn’t painting 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. The inspiration came from a very dramatic scene of one of my favorite programs ever – Dexter. I wanted to take the scene and make it happier in an ironic sort of way, so, what better way to do that than with a heaping serving of Plants VS Zombies. At the time, it was my biggest creative project and remained so until I started sewing the Greybeard Cloaks from Skyrim. I promise I am working furiously at putting those pictures into coherent blog episodes; we all know it’s why you are really here anyway. And now it’s time for some real beautiful goodness.

The Most Beautiful Hat EVER

I know what you’re thinking. You just have to have one, right? The good news is: this was made several years ago; when I was still sewing for no reason. I promise my technique has improved exponentially. When I finally get around to posting my Skyrim inspired work; I’m sure you will agree.

I would talk about how I made this monstrosity in great detail, but I’ll save you the pain and give you the highlights:

  1. Buy the ugliest fabric you find at a thrift store.
  2. Attack said fabric with weed whacker or spork.
  3. Apply duct tape
  4. Cry

I actually wrote this episode for a close friend. She is attending art classes and her instructor assaulted her work and efforts. As a result, she has been upset and contemplating quitting classes. I can’t help but feel outraged at the instructor. If someone had seen my hat and told me I had no future in sewing, I might have never sat in front of my machine again. I know I wouldn’t have sewn for months. I am lucky to have very positive influences in my life to encourage continual improvements and remind me of my potential. So, if you are out there reading this, keep your head up my dear friend.

The moral of the story is: never let haters bring you down! When someone says “you can’t/don’t/won’t…” realize they are trying to fill a void inside themselves and it has nothing to do with you. I have overcome some difficult obstacles to get where I am today and if anyone out there reading this feels discouraged; hold your head up and know that everything will work itself out. You have to work really hard; half efforts will get you nowhere. But, if you really want it and push your limits; you WILL make it happen.

This concludes the first portion of the self help book on tape.  Please flip the cassette over and press play.

Chapter 2: Maintaining Peace and Tranquility with Plush Monsters

Plush monsters have giant teeth and should be respected as such. While they are not the biggest fan of robot potatoes, plush monsters actually enjoy bringing happiness to children. Many critics would argue that there is no better pet for a young person who needs a loyal pet. The CDC has recently reported a record monster shortage at most children’s hospitals and treatment centers.

And with that note, I think I will host my first annual Plush Monster Charity Masquerade Ball. Ah, the ol PMCMB.  I was thinking The Ball could be on Halloween and I could spend the year making plush monsters in my free time to send to a children’s hospital – or multiple hospitals.  I know it is a while away, but I will work hard to make it as interesting as possible. Again, your input is welcome here, Facebook or you can email me directly through Gmail; same username. If I am going to host the Ball in October, I am sure I will have better ideas by then. Hopefully.

This is my first attempt at doing an internet-involved community service project. Truth be told, I could have several dozens of pictures on my blog from various events; but, I really run from cameras :) It’s the only exercise I get. I like being the silent heroine. I’m not in this for fame; I’m here to encourage everyone out there to think about the less fortunate people in their communities and make a difference. So, with that in mind, get out there and help the world suck less.

If you are a fellow artist and would like to participate, feel free to send me a message or jump in feet first.
I would like to thank you all for taking the time to stop by and read this. Up, Up & Away!

Bunneah Munk

Welcome to my Valentine’s Day edition of… whatever this is. It has been a busy week for me. In case you missed the last episode, I narrowly escaped an almost-certain death at the hands of some really nasty zombies. Thanks for your concern. Today is a beautiful day. I’ve made a robot friend and I’m partying with two awesome monsters. What could go wrong?

As 2012 fades into a distant memory, it’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is already here. I really don’t want this to be sappy. As a matter of a fact, I believe the act of giving someone something awesome to say I love you should come out of the blue. Not every February 14th because ‘it’s what you do’. But, I’m still a gamer girl that loves all things cute. So, with this in mind, let’s start the show.

Love Potions and Portal Inspired Companion Cube Mask

In the tradition of the last post, I included more vials and another mask today. How can any gamer not be in love with Portal? I’m this close to getting my Portal gun functioning. Maybe I can finally get out of this room; I’m hungry and this crazy woman keeps inviting me over for cake. I’ve eaten all of my apples, chugged the last of my stamina potions and all I have left is this love potion. Great! It’s not even real! Some Valentine’s Day this is turning out to be.

Well, I suppose you may want to know how how the potions and masks were crafted. I described how I made them both in Episode 2 which is packed with zombie goodness. The only difference is the mask and the potion have glitter added, because everything is better when it sparkles. The potions have acrylic paint mixed into the resin, as opposed to the clay from the zombie, virus and cure vials.

Tough Girl Arm Warmers and Kawaii Buttons Galore

Upon closer examination of the lace arm warmers, I noticed a heart shaped object. That must be the secret admirer button GLaDOS warned me about. Cake! It’s all I can think about. Confound that evil robot woman. Now that I look at them a little closer, the rainbow speckled hearts arm warmers resemble a cake with sprinkles. If I could only get this stupid gun to work. Is it missing ammunition? Is this where the buttons go?

The arm warmers are made from a basic pattern. I serge them together and will post more in-depth construction pictures if enough interest is out there. The buttons are made by combining three metric tons of clay with a bored Bunneah :) The rose shank buttons are made by inserting a toothpick in though the side and baking with the toothpick in. After cooling, the toothpick is removed and a cast made from the best one of the batch. The rest of the buttons were made with their respective casts.

Kitty and Pinkie Monsters

At the beginning of the day, it was me, a kitty and a cute albino monster in this room. Like a genius, I tried putting the rose buttons into the Portal gun and now I have a Kitty and… Pinkie, that’s what I’ll call her. You know, waiting for this cake is really getting on my nerves. I wonder how edible these monsters are? Oh no! Bad idea… RUN!

Well, here I am sitting in a corner hiding from some understandably angry monsters. I think I will have my gun up and running soon so I can finally have a slice of that chocolaty strawberry goodness. I’m sure that, within the next year, I will post an actual step-by-step construction guide for the pillow monsters. I promise as I create new things, I will make a point to take more depth pictures to share. Stick with me and I’ll get the hang of this internet friends thing. If you are enjoying the content,  you can show your support by picking up one of my all time favorites: Portal 2 for PC on Amazon.

I can’t blog about the color pink, hearts, and Valentine’s Day without encouraging all of you ladies reading to remember the importance of regular breast cancer screenings. Early detection is critical. You can find a hospital or clinic offering free screenings near you HERE

It’s five o’clock in the morning, your chest pounds; the sound of an air raid siren is deafening. Wait! That’s not a siren; it’s your alarm clock. Now, I’m no medical professional, but it seems like you have been suffering from zombie withdrawals. Or, perhaps you’re infected; I told you I’m no medical professional. Either way, I have just what the doctor ordered in this little glass vial.

To celebrate the return of The Walking Dead (stupid mid-season breaks), I wanted to stuff this post to the brim with a hoard of zombie awesomeness. I will start with the smallest and work my way up to the bigger pieces.

Zombie, Virus and Cure Vials

Besides skants, nothing in this world makes less sense than having a population exterminating virus without carrying the antidote. So, I figured I would make both, just in case I get clumsy and knock over a shelf of zombie germs. We all love The Walking Dead; but I would rather not have to hunker down in an abandoned prison with strangers that haven’t showered in months, thank you very much.

I made the vials by rolling Sculpey into thin ‘logs’ and wrapping them around a wooden chopstick from my favorite orange chicken vendor :)  After baking and painting, I carefully placed the clay into small glass vials. Then I mixed a two part resin in a disposable cup. Using a toothpick to keep the clay in place, I carefully filled the vials with resin. After I was confident the clay wasn’t going anywhere, I let the vials cure for two days and sealed them with E-6000. The vials were finished by burning the edges of paper and using the paper as labels. But what good is a cure if you are outnumbered and unarmed? You need a disguise pronto!

Phantom of the Zombies Mask

In the spirit of the old proverb – if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em; it is time to blend in with the enemy. I can’t think of a better way to blend in amongst the zombie hordes than with a rotting flesh mask. As you can clearly see, this zombie is having a terrible week.

This mask was made with a Bauta mask blank. After removing the elastic headband, I built up the blank with Sculpey and baked it. Once cooled; liberal amounts of paint were applied in an attempt to produce something that resembles a resurrected corpse. Finish off the day with gluing a velvet liner and satin ribbons to the back and allow it to cure. Voila! Phantom of the Zombies! So, the stench of dead people is not really your thing. Perhaps you would rather spend some time slaying these freaks! Now we’re talking. You’re going to need a formidable weapon to take on this wave. Your wish is my command :)

Tough Girl Zombie Defense Weapons

Let’s be honest with each other. We are living in crazy times. First, an incoherent homeless man in Miami starts chewing off another homeless man’s face; then, Hostess decides to stop making Twinkies. Soon enough, Spam will be a thing of the past and the zombies will make their move. What better way to defend the cardboard castle than a DIY hefty chunk of metal fashioned into a mace? The inspiration and credit for this project came from This YouTube video.

The mace is essentially a steel pipe with a bumper hitch attached by a coupler. The pipe also has an end cap at the bottom to finish the look. I gorilla glued everything in place and sent the maces to a local powder coat shop. After the powder coat, I added some blood splatter paint for effect. I think I might double wrap the bottom half in tennis racquet grip tape next. With the exception of the grip tape and powder coating, all of the parts can be found at any major hardware store. The diameter and length of the pipe along with the size of the hitch are customizable to your liking. It should be noted that these are NOT toys. If you make one please exercise caution at all times. Oh, you think a weapon is enough? What are you going to do when they learn how to use weapons? No worries, Bunneah to the rescue again.

Tough Girl Zombie Raid Bunny Mask

Who would have known a cute bunny face could be so ruthless? This girl has taken a beating and is still standing strong. Capable of stopping hollow point clay bullets, this is the ultimate in surviving a pistol-wielding zombie. Similar to the Phantom of the Zombies mask, I started out with a bunny mask blank and built up with clay.

With your mace in hand and the cure safely tucked into your pocket, you will need something to do! Consider supporting this blog by picking up The Walking Dead Season 1 DVD  OR  Season 1 Blu Ray  OR   Season 2 DVD OR  Season 2 Blu Ray on Amazon.

I know we covered zombie defense extensively today, so I wanted to say a few words. Bashing a zombie to bits is a much different thing than the real violence many people face every day. Consider calling your local domestic violence shelter and asking what supplies they need most. Some shelters have deals with local stores where you can make a supply donation and they will give the shelter better prices than you just going shopping and making a donation.

Hello and welcome to my blog. I want to keep this short and to the point so you don’t fall asleep.

I will start by saying that I am honored to have you as a guest. I want to thank you for allowing me to occupy some of your time today. I know things look a bit untidy and barren right now; but, I promise I’ll continue to make improvements to my layout and add original content as often as my schedule allows. Suggestions are always welcome to improve the accessibility or eye-friendliness. Please feel free to leave a comment if something needs work. I believe in setting realistic expectations for my readers. You should know that:

  • There will be random giveaways. I love knowing my work is bringing a smile to someone somewhere; so, if you keep an eye out, you might win random awesomeness.
  • I am not a professional blogger. This is my first real effort to share my work with the interwebs. So, if you’re expecting perfection, be prepared to be very disappointed.
  • This blog is mainly going to focus on my work in the studio. I primarily design Cosplay Costumes and everyday clothing inspired by video games like Skyrim, Oblivion and Assassin’s Creed.
  • I also love to paint. After two years of Volunteer service with AmeriCorps, I took college oil painting classes and fell in love. So, unlike this post, my blog is going to be packed with pictures and corny jokes.
  • I have not always taken pictures with the forethought of sharing them with you fine people in such a public manner. Then again, I’m not here to compete with anyone. Once this becomes a competition, it’s not fun for me anymore. I am hoping to showcase how I have evolved as an artist and designer.
  • This blog is for you and people like you! If you enjoy the costumes, paintings or randomness herein; I invite you to share my blog with likeminded friends, family and neighbors. You are also welcome to connect with me on Facebook, YouTube (coming soon) Twitter, Google+ and just about everywhere else on the web. Links are in the sidebar.
  • I am not a professional photographer and my posts from older projects will certainly reflect this. As a matter of a fact, I don’t even own a camera. It’s actually just an old, dehydrated potato with a lens glued on. I have been upgrading my studio and equipment slowly. However, I do want to show some of my earlier, unpolished work and talk a little about my community involvement from time to time. Don’t be surprised if you see all kinds of crafty goodness hiding in my blog.
  • Above all else – I would like to take a moment to encourage everyone reading this to get involved in your communities. You don’t even have to break out your wallet to make a difference. Spending just one day a month helping someone that has less than you is a great way to help build your neighborhood. Donate blood, help build a home for a less fortunate family, give free lap dances to firefighters if that’s your style – just do something positive for your community and earn some good Karma. Links to get involved with the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity are included at the top of this page.

I want to thank you again for reading this. The pictures are coming with the next post. I have been furiously at work trying to get pictures edited and sorted. I don’t want to give too much away; so, just know that I will fill your need for zombies very soon :) As I leave you today, I would like you do something for me, for you… for no reason whatsoever. Take a moment to have a good look into the mirror and remind yourself that you are an awesome person. It just makes the day go so much better.

Feel free to drop a line.
